Review of TIFF Bell Lightbox

TIFF Bell Lightbox

Illuminated night and day on Toronto's King Street, is a building called TIFF Bell Lightbox. For one week, one of the most important and celebrated film festivals comes to life known as the Toronto International Film Festival or TIFF for short.

When the stars don't descend upon Toronto though, TIFF Bell Lightbox serves as a cultural center in the city. Activities are held year round that range from all things art. When we visited the building there was an exhibit entitled digiPlaySpace aimed at kids to teach them more about technology and the ways it affects their lives. Most of the exhibit was located on the first floor, beside the admissions booth and across from the café.

Apart from the year round events, visitors are welcomed with an assortment of selected foreign films from all over the world. The film selections range from the classic to the memorable, the provoking to the newly inspiring. Some films that play coincide with any exhibits going on (for example there was an array of children's movies when we visited) but there are always films that have been selected for their artistic merits and importance.

The building itself is a wonderful reflection of the city it represents. It emulates the simple but elegant designs of the streets of Toronto echoing an age long before the "6ix" was ever spoken by the city's patron youth. To remind its visitors of this, there are pictures after pictures up on the walls leading up to the cinemas of famous celebs that have graced through the halls of this place. They have pictures that range from decades ago all the way up to the current day.

The TIFF Bell Lightbox is simple but quaint, yet inviting and warm. It's truly a place where all movie lovers, as well as lovers of any type of artistic medium, can come in and feel at one with their passions while getting a feel for the city of Toronto. The TIFF Bell Lightbox is a wonderful place for not only Toronto natives and visitors to the city during TIFF itself, but truly a place to visit year round. Come check it out, we'll be glad to be your tour guides.
